Turkish President Erdogan slammed Israel and its backers in a fiery speech on Wednesday, urging world leaders to stop the attack against Palestinians in Gaza.
Speaking in parliament, Erdogan said Turkey “owes nothing” to Israel and announced the cancellation of his planned visit to Israel due to its “inhumane” war.
“Hamas is not a terrorist organization. It is a liberation group, mujahideen waging a battle to protect its lands and people,” Erdogan said, sparking outrage among many Israeli and Western leaders.
Erdogan commented, “Almost half of those killed in Israel’s attacks on Gaza are children. This picture alone shows that the aim is not self-defense, but a premeditated atrocity aimed at committing crimes against humanity.”
Erdogan accused those providing unwavering support to Israel of being responsible for the “massacre and destruction taking place in Gaza.”
He emphasized the necessity for a ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and a humanitarian corridor to address the urgent needs of Palestinians in Gaza.
Erdogan concluded his speech by inviting other countries to exert diplomatic pressure on the Israeli government to work toward a peaceful resolution, stating, “I invite all other countries of reason and conscience to pressure the Netanyahu government to bring the state of Israel back to its senses.”

In response to Erdogan’s speech, Col. Douglas Macgregor raised concerns about the war escalating into a larger regional conflict, suggesting, “He set the stage for eventual Turkish military intervention into this regional conflict. He’s warning the Israelis, and he’s warning us that you’re playing with fire, and you’re going to get a full-scale war.”
