TUCKER: But he was part of an insurrection against you?
PUTIN: Hardly. There were some grievances aired and the matter was settled quickly. Western intelligence agencies wanted to make hay out of it but got nowhere. Russia has never been more united.
TUCKER: But who would want him dead? A sophisticated missile downed the plane. Very few have that capability.
PUTIN: Everything about it was made to look like we did it. Innocent people were aboard too including a young woman. Only savages could have downed that plane.
TUCKER: Let me ask about Wagner?
PUTIN: It’s still around but somewhat reorganized. We allowed a good number of fighters to join the Russian army. We’re especially proud of them. They fought bravely. Unlike Ukraine we don’t have a recruitment problem. We have volunteers…
TUCKER: But we saw images of long lines of cars crossing Russia’s borders. Were these not people escaping conscription?
PUTIN: Perhaps. I’m sure there were some which only goes to show we’re not such an authoritarian country as portrayed.
TUCKER: Speaking of that, I need to ask you about Alexei Navalny. Is he your political prisoner and is he in a remote Siberian prison?
PUTIN: Navalny was convicted for financial fraud. Nothing about politics. He’s serving in a prison, like yours, built away from populated areas.
TUCKER: Would you be willing to pardon him or commute his sentence as a sign of good will?
PUTIN: I’ve not been asked and haven’t thought of it. I’ll take it under advisement. I will of course also have to hear from the victims of his crimes. They should have a word in it too.
TUCKER: I think it would go a long way toward eliminating accusations that he is a political prisoner somehow –
PUTIN: You are quite right.
TUCKER: We have our own problems in that arena. Have you talked to Eric Snowden at all.
PUTIN: No. Not in particular. Should I have?
TUCKER: Some would regard him as an American political exile. How do you see him?
PUTIN: We primarily see him as an honorable person. Someone who is principled and honest. Above all we want to respect his privacy and to give him his freedoms.
TUCKER: Thank you for that.
TUCKER: In America we’re struggling with personal freedoms which seem to be eroding. How do you see the aftermath of Jan 6th?
PUTIN: We’re shocked at the level of retribution against ordinary citizens. We didn’t expect it. It’s an overreaction. Beyond that I shouldn’t say more.

A California physician who gave medical aid to a dying Ashli Babbitt on Jan. 6, 2021, but was forced away from the scene by police has been sentenced to probation as part of a plea deal for his time at the U.S. Capitol.
Dr. Austin Brendlen Harris, 43, of Granada Hills, California, was sentenced on Feb. 2 by U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton to three years of probation and fined $5,000 for the petty misdemeanor charge of parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.
Federal prosecutors recommended that Judge Walton sentence Dr. Harris to 30 days in jail.
